Today/Sears Tower (Because I Refuse To Call It Willis Tower)

She was once again The Birthday Girl at preschool today!
These were the delicious little birthday treat mice that she brought for her class.
Cousin Karen and her nephew Jessie came to Chicago for the day!  We decided to do the Skydeck thing.

More Birthday

Daddy had to work on her birthday, so we did a little Birthday Eve celebration.  This is when she first laid eyes on her present from Momma & Daddy:  the Barbie Jeep that she wanted so badly!
 Happy girl!
Taking it for a spin right away!
This picture gives me a flash forward to the future, which both hurts and warms my heart!
Jasper + Polly on patrol!
Her favorite pink roses and a little birthday cake.
 Enjoying another Happy Birthday serenade!
 More wishes!
Birthday morning opening all of her gifts from up north family!

Our baby girl is 5 years old!  A whole hand worth of years!  Margaux continues to bring such love and joy into our lives.  Such a happy, bright, imaginative little girl who knows her own mind!  She absolutely loves preschool and pounces on any chance that she gets to learn something new.  I admire her ability to reach out and make friends so easily, something that I struggled with due to shyness at her age.  I even admire her in her audacity to be naughty at times, for it is through testing and errors that we often learn our best lessons.  I believe that we are raising a genuinely good person, with a giving spirit and gentle heart.  I thank God every single day for her.  Happiest Birthday to you, dear Margaux!  xoxo

Fancy Margaux Turns 5

The morning of the party, we went to get her Fancy Nancy hair done at Lillie's & Spike's in Oak Park.  NuNu did a wonderful job!
Is that Fancy Nancy?  No!  It's Fancy Margaux!
Butterflies, of course!  Fancy Nancy loves butterflies!
 A very pleased little girl.
Complimentary make up and hair chalk for the birthday girl!
 In her glory!
Ooh La La!
Bonjour!  Welcome to The King's Crown for lunch! (Cute signs, invitations & thank you cards were purchased as a file on Etsy from Pixel Parade!)
 Jasper, the maitre d'!
Our neighbor's relative owns a wedding rental business, and the chairs really made the whole set up extra fancy!
Fancy Nancy loves all things French and fancy!
The accessories and party favor/craft table.
Margaux helped paint this backdrop.  Boas for everyone!
I read Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy and then each girl chose her own puppy + collar to decorate with gems.  They also got round tags to name their puppies and add to the collars.
Then I read Fancy Nancy and the Spectacular Spectacles.  Each girl got a pair of butterfly spectacles to decorate with gems and feathers.  Tres magnifique!
The little mademoiselles accessorized with jewelry, colored hair pieces, crowns, boas and lip gloss that came in little polka-dot change purses.
 Fancy Margaux & Fancy Addison
We also had a wonderful face painter that I highly recommend: Valery, www.chicagofacepainter.com
Twelve fantastic little mademoiselles getting their party craft on!
Each little girl (And Bex!) got a Fancy Foto taken as another party favor.
Beautiful cake!  I highly recommend:  Cathy, www.cakesbycathy.me

Taking it all in and loving her Happy Birthday serenade!
 Five candles, big wishes.
 Gift time!
Party success!
Merci!

Miss Margaux chose Fancy Nancy as her birthday party theme this year and I had SO.MUCH.FUN planning her party around this theme!  We had 11 fabulous little girls in attendance + their wonderful mommies and one aunt, who I am proud to call my dear friends!  Grandpa & Grandma Prater also decided to drive over from Michigan to attend the party, and they were a huge help to us!  Last but not least, a special shout out to my friend, Bex, who always understands and appreciates my party visions and swoops in at crunch time to save my sanity!  She made the 12 butterfly shaped PB&Js and assembled the lunch plates while I scurried around with last minute prep!  The sun was shining, making it a perfect October Saturday for our back yard tent celebration.

Meet Polly Prater

So Margaux had been asking for a Beagle for months on end.  She would often wake up in the morning and woefully recall a dream she had about getting a Beagle.  (She's good!)  We used to be a two dog family, but since 2009 it has just been Jasper, who is seriously the BEST DOG EVER.  I was not overly eager to get another dog, but I finally caved.  It was supposed to be her birthday gift, but then we visited Tender Loving Care Animal Shelter in Homer Glen this week, and Margaux fell instantly in love with "Honey".  First her name was Ariel Aurora, then it was Barbie for a few minutes before becoming Polly (Pocket)!  It suits her.  She is about 2 years old and she was a rescue from Kentucky.  We only do rescue/adoptions, I feel it is shameful not to, with so many animals needing homes and being destroyed on a daily basis.  Polly is a sweet little girl.  She and Jasper get along great and have bursts of wild play energy throughout the day.  The only quirk we need to work on, is the separation anxiety (?) with pooping in the basement.  Eek!  We have never had to utilize crates, but I think I am going to give that a shot for when we leave the house.  Stay tuned...
