As a new age dawns in England's twelfth century, the building of a mighty Gothic cathedral sets the stage for a story of intrigue and power, revenge and betrayal. It is in this rich tapestry, where kings and queens are corrupt, that the common man shows eternal promise--and one majestic creation will bond them forever...
This book was a bestseller in 1989 but has gained recent popularity thanks to Oprah's Book Club. I admit it, I would not have known about it without O's endorsement. The Oprah stamp of approval turns many people off, but let's face it, if something is good she is gonna find out about it! This book captivated me from page 1 to page 983...I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to read it's sequel, World Without End.

I read that book a couple of years ago. I went into the book store looking for something to read and found it on one of those pot luck paperback tables in the middle. I loved it, so real, so discriptive- creates a picture from the very first horrible scene, I really love books with layers- I had no idea he was planning a sequel, Great news! The lady at the book store said this wasn't his typical genre- I think he usually does Thrillers or something- so I figured I wouldn't be able to find anything else by him like this- Cool to know. Funny I heard them annuonce the Oprah book club book and didn't even realize it was one I have already read until just now when I saw the cover!! LOL- I think I even told Jeremy Oprah picked "Pillars of Creation" by Goodkind or something- weird... since that's a multi-book series and isn't even the first book- anyway, I digress... LOL! Anyway, great book- I think I may pick it back up again as a matter of fact!
Ok, I didn't realize the sequel is alreay out!! Now I just have to decide... can I wait until October for the paperback? (probably not)
Thanks for posting this! I'm really excited! (I know I'm a dork)
